Farmer hacked to death in Portland

A quiet Thursday afternoon in Portland turned deadly when a farmer was brutally chopped to death in an attack that has left police searching for answers.

The incident occurred sometime after noon in the Content district of Hope Bay.

Preliminary reports indicate that the farmer was attacked by another man and sustained fatal chop wounds to the head and upper body.

His identity has not yet been released.

The alleged attacker has since been taken into police custody as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The homicide is the latest recorded in the Portland Police Division, which had registered two murders between January 1 and June 27 this year, according to the latest Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) crime statistics.
