A St Catherine motorist learnt the hard way that what happens inside a courtroom can come at a hefty price after he was slapped with a $100,000 fine for uttering an expletive moments after being fined for a traffic offence.

Oscar Simpson found himself back before the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday after his outburst caught the attention of the presiding judge.

According to reports, Simpson had appeared before the court on a traffic violation and, after being fined, uttered indecent language inside the courtroom.

The remark was reportedly brought to the attention of the judge, resulting in Simpson being charged with using indecent language.

He subsequently pleaded guilty and was fined $100,000 or one month's imprisonment.

When THE STAR caught up with Simpson shortly after 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, moments after the fine was paid and he exited the holding cells, he admitted the incident had shaken him.

"Mi frighten, as is a next fine mi pay when it happened," Simpson said.

Meanwhile, scores of motorists also appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court on Wednesday to answer various traffic-related offences, with many leaving the courthouse expressing differing views on the day's proceedings.
