Jamaica records second straight week of single-digit murders
Jamaica has recorded its second straight week of single-digit murders, with just six homicides reported across the island between June 21 and June 27, according to the latest serious crime statistics from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The figures follow the previous week's total of eight murders between June 14 and June 20, making it one of the longest stretches of low weekly murder figures recorded this year.
As at June 27, Jamaica had recorded 265 murders, down 23 per cent from the 342 reported during the corresponding period last year.
The decline extends beyond murders, with the JCF reporting reductions in shootings, persons injured, rape, robberies and break-ins, contributing to an overall 20 per cent drop in major crimes compared with the same period in 2025.
Despite the overall decline, St James continues to record the highest number of murders islandwide, with 35 homicides since the start of the year, a 25 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year.
St Andrew South has recorded 22 murders, a 51 per cent decline, while St Andrew Central has reported 21 murders, representing a 17 per cent increase.
Clarendon has recorded 20 murders, a five per cent reduction, while Kingston Eastern rounds out the top five police divisions with 19 murders, a 73 per cent increase compared with the corresponding period in 2025.
The latest figures continue the downward trend in violent crime this year as investigators maintain targeted operations against criminal networks across several police divisions.
