A World Cup football match reportedly ended in tragedy in St Catherine on Wednesday night when a dispute over the television volume allegedly escalated into a deadly stabbing, leaving a 23-year-old man dead and his uncle in police custody.

Dead is Lamar Mullings, a 23-year-old unemployed resident of Bowie Road in Ewarton, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 8 p.m. on June 17, Mullings was at home while a football match was being shown on television.

It is alleged that Mullings, who was in bed at the time, asked his 25-year-old uncle to turn down the volume on the television. However, the request was reportedly refused, leading to an argument between the two relatives.

Investigators say the dispute quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the altercation, the uncle allegedly used a knife to stab Mullings in the chest.

The injured man was rushed to the Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect was subsequently taken into custody by the Ewarton Police on suspicion of murder as investigators continue their probe into the incident.
