A 23-year-old chef was shot dead inside his Portmore home in the early hours of Tuesday morning after residents were jolted awake by what sounded like a barrage of gunfire.

The deceased has been identified as Kenny Kenrick Schooler of Manley Lane, Naggo Head, Bridgeport, Portmore, St Catherine.

According to police reports, at about 3:30 a.m. on July 1, explosions sounding like gunshots were heard at Schooler's premises.

The police were alerted and responded to the location.

On arrival, investigators reportedly observed spent shells near the zinc fence entrance to the house occupied by Schooler.

The one-room concrete structure was searched, and Schooler's body was found lying on its side with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the upper and lower sections of his body.

He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not established a motive for the killing.

The Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch is continuing its probe into the fatal shooting.
