Couple nabbed with illegal gun while relaxing on beach

What appeared to be a quiet beach outing in St Thomas quickly turned into a dramatic police operation after a couple relaxing along the shoreline was suddenly arrested and found with an illegal firearm.

The man and woman were reportedly lying along a beach near the Bergonia Resorts in Lysson when lawmen swooped in on Wednesday afternoon, acting on information.

Reports are that about 2:45 p.m., officers moved in and conducted a search, during which a black 9mm Beretta handgun along with 10 rounds of ammunition was allegedly discovered in a black bag said to be in the woman's possession.

The unexpected bust stunned onlookers as the seaside scene shifted from calm to tense within moments.

Both individuals were taken into custody, but up to late Wednesday they had not yet been formally charged.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
