A taxi strike and roadblock in Hertford, Westmoreland on Monday disrupted movement, leaving commuters stranded

Chaos gripped sections of Hertford, Westmoreland on Monday as angry taxi operators pulled off the roads, as they protest leaving scores of commuters stranded and scrambling for transportation.

The drivers blocked sections of the roadway, bringing traffic to a standstill and forcing frustrated passengers to walk long distances or seek alternate routes to reach their destinations.

At the heart of the protest is growing anger over the poor state of the roads, which operators say is wrecking their vehicles and draining their pockets.

Drivers complained that constant repairs, combined with rising insurance costs, licensing fees, and taxes, are making it nearly impossible to turn a profit.

Many, especially younger operators, say they rely on the taxi industry to survive but are struggling to stay afloat as conditions worsen.
