Ex-MP charged with incest gets bail, ordered to stay away from daughter
The former Member of Parliament charged with incest after allegedly sexually assaulting his teenage daughter has been granted $300,000 bail when he appeared before the Westmoreland Parish Court.
The man, who previously represented the People's National Party, was ordered to report to the Frome Police Station every Saturday and to have no contact with the child. No travel restrictions were imposed.
His identity is being withheld to protect the minor.
Reports are that the alleged incident took place on January 23 while he was assisting the teen with a passport application. During the process, he reportedly took her to verify photographs.
Investigators allege that the child was later taken to the man's home, where the sexual assault occurred.
Following a police operation at his residence, the former lawmaker was taken into custody on Monday and subsequently charged.
The case has sent shockwaves, with the court imposing strict conditions as the matter moves forward.
