Woman abducted, robbed of JMD$40,000 and US$5 at gunpoint in Portland
What began as a routine taxi ride turned into a nightmare for a woman who was allegedly abducted and robbed of $40,000 and US$5 at gunpoint in St Margaret's Bay, Portland last month.
Police say the woman boarded a Toyota Probox being operated as a taxi about 12:30 a.m. on March 28, but the journey quickly took a sinister turn when the driver allegedly veered off the main road.
Moments later, three men reportedly emerged, and the driver allegedly pulled a firearm, robbing the woman.
The ordeal did not end there, as the woman was taken further along before being released on the Snow Hill main road.
Following investigations, detectives from Portland moved swiftly, leading to the arrest and charging of two men in connection with the incident.
Charged are 31-year-old electrician Jerome McLean and 24-year-old labourer Kagan Gibson, both of Snow Hill in the parish.
They now face a raft of serious charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, using a firearm to commit a felony, robbery with aggravation, being part of a criminal organisation, and benefiting from criminal activity.
Police say the men were implicated during the probe and later apprehended in a targeted operation. They were formally charged on Sunday after being questioned in the presence of their attorneys.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
