Thompson-Herah back in action today in Zagreb
AFTER missing the final of the women's 100 metres at the recent JAAA Puma National Senior and Junior Championships, Elaine Thompson-Herah will return to the track today as she will be one of six Jamaicans in action at the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial meet in Zagreb, a World Continental Tour Gold meet.
Thompson-Herah, a five-time Olympic champion, will make her first competitive trip to Europe since 2023. With a season's best 10.92 seconds, achieved earlier this year at a local meet in Kingston. She will be joined by Brianna Lyston. Lyston, who did not compete at the National Championships. Lyston is coming off a victory a week ago when she clocked 10.99 to win at a World Continental Tour Gold meet in Hengelo.
Another athlete who was missing at the National Championships, two-time World Championships bronze medallist in the women's 400m hurdles, Rushell Clayton, will contest the event tomorrow. She is coming off a second-place finish at the recent Diamond League meet in Doha and will once again clash with world leader Emma Zapletalová.
Closing out competition on the track for Jamaica will be newly crowned national 400 metres champion Stacy-Ann Williams, the third-fastest Jamaican in the one-lap event this season. Williams captured her first senior national title with an easy win on Sunday..
National champion Tajay Gayle will also compete in the long jump today.
