Ride with The Teacha

THE TEACHA, unbeaten in two starts and looking progressive in both, appears to be the only trusted banker on Saturday's Reggae 6, the first meet after 7-1 shot BUTTERCUP forced a $162,019 Easter Monday mandatory payout.

Yet another Jason DaCosta foreigner, THE TEACHA, won his second race on the trot, clocking 1:13.4 at six furlongs to beat HONOUR PRINCE and MULLIGAN MAN.

HONOUR PRINCE, last year's Sir Howard Stakes winner, who was awarded the Prince Consort Stakes in the stewards' room in his next race after RUNAWAY STAR's disqualification, ran really well off an 11-month lay-up for second, a half-length ahead of United States-bred MULLIGAN MAN.

Prior to his winning debut at five and a half furlongs on March 14, THE TEACHA had kept company at exercise with grade-one stablemate, FUNCAANDUN, the 2024 Mouttet Mile winner, who placed third behind RIDEALLDAY and LEGACY ISLE in last year's event.

Blessed with early pace, THE TEACHA appeared comfortable in the closing stages of both victories, suggesting he should have no problem at seven and a half furlongs.

I DREAM AGAIN, THE TEACHA'S stablemate, won last year's Jamaica Derby and St Leger but floundered badly in three consecutive overnight allowance races before weakening out of contention in the Chairman's Plate at nine furlongs and 25 yards last Mouttet Mile day.

The local-bred appears to be a filler, unraced since December and sparsely trained, entered merely to ensure stablemate THE TEACHA gets another freebie on his way to the higher classes.
