Lawyer into custody after nearly two-hour standoff in MoBay
Just days after she was listed as a person of interest in a Fraud Squad investigation, downtown Montego Bay became the scene of a tense standoff where attorney-at-law Debby-Ann Samuels reportedly spent nearly two hours locked inside a motor car, sources say, before being taken into custody.
A senior police official confirmed her arrest following the incident in the busy commercial hub on Monday.
According to sources, Samuels was in downtown Montego Bay on personal business when she was approached by two cops on patrol who informed her that they were going to take her into custody.
It is reported that she then ran into a parked motor car and locked herself inside, refusing to come out.
The standoff reportedly lasted nearly two hours as police attempted to have her exit the vehicle.
"She ran go in a har car go lock up. A 'bout two hours she in deh and nah open the door. A bare excitement," one source recounted.
She was eventually taken into custody.
A senior police official told The STAR that Samuels will be transported to Kingston for an interview in the presence of her attorney.
Investigators are probing allegations related to a land deal.
