The Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and Ian Fleming International Airport in St Mary will open today at 4:00 p.m. for relief flights, with commercial flights to begin tomorrow, as Jamaica embarks on recovery efforts following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

This was announced on Wednesday by Transport Minister Daryl Vaz, who toured airports today to get a first-hand look at the impact of the storm on the facilities.

The passenger flights at both airports will begin at 7:00 a.m.

Over at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, Vaz says it will open at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow for relief flights, noting that assessments are ongoing.

He says a decision is to be made no later than this afternoon on the resumption of commercial flights.

The aim is to have passenger flights by Friday, said Vaz.
