D’Angel dismisses critics of her lingerie line
Dancehall artiste D'Angel says critics and naysayers' comments serve as a motivation because she won't stop modelling her lingerie wears.
D'Angel, who was a professional model, a career she said she will never 'retire' from, stressed that she believes she was the best person to model her own brand.
"I am taken aback and this is just a joke to me, because I am serious about my entrepreneurial skills. I'm a working mom and being criticised for a mom who has a lingerie line, I can't understand it or put a meaning to it. I am a working mom coming under attack because I'm earning my honest bread, modelling and showcasing my own brand. I don't understand the minds of these people - where they're going and what they're trying to accomplish," D'Angel shared with THE WEEKEND STAR. "Artistes over the world are branding their own brands whether it be make up, lingerie, clothes items and they are mothers".
She added that, through her lingerie brand, her main goal was for women to achieve "self-worth, self-care, loving and owning yuh body, loving yourself and confidence".
"So I'm not sure what others are looking at because I'm not looking a man and mi naah look nobody fi lust affa mi because it nuh matta what shape, size or body I am, I'd still be confident and I would still be representing my line. I'm all about body confidence in women from day one and I love to model and wear fashionable clothes. So if I have my own collection why wouldn't I want to show it?" a frustrated D'Angel stated. She shared that she always dreamed of modelling for the Victoria Secret Angel line but when that dream failed and she made her own lingerie collection, she said she was happy to see her dream come alive.
The artiste said she came under heavy backlash recently after making a post showing one of her lingerie pieces. However, being no stranger to the world of critics, D'Angel said this will serve as an inspiration to push through and do greater things.
"Over the years, I've become stronger and accept every criticism good or bad with a smile and a motivation at the same time. What people say or think about me doesn't change the vision I have for myself or my focus. As I even get older, trivial things don't matter. I'm trying to live a good life and leave an impact while on this Earth," said D'Angel. "I'm proud of myself and my growth and my journey."
The Blessed artiste was quick to note that her professional life doesn't impact her relationship with her son or his peers as he often compliments and respects her choices because he understands that it puts food on the table. However, she said she believed that the hatred is more directly geared towards her.
"When you're on a path to a successful life, there will always be detractors who will come at you. I've had my fair share, but without a test, you will never have a testimony and one thing I know for sure, I will not fail. I will continue on my entrepreneurial path and use this fi even motivate me fi create more," she said.
